Wow! We have been so busy already this term!
We have been getting back into our class routines as well as practicing for our cross country. Well done to everyone who ran last Friday and did their best! It's not always about where you came in the race- but if you got better at running over those 3 weeks!
Lots of creating has been going on as we begin to look at writing procedures which include instructions, numbers, introductions and conclusions.
Just a few photos attached of our learning so far...

A Real Author!
We were very lucky to have Jo Guy come and visit us at school yesterday. She read her book about Snooty Stanley to us. It took Jo 2 years to go from the idea of the book to having the book published!
We can't wait to read the book in our school library!

Rio Olympics
We have been planning and making transport options for the New Zealand Olympians to use to travel over to Rio.
We found out that Rio is a city in Brazil which is like Dannevirke is a town in New Zealand.
Also, Brazil is in South America and New Zealand is in the Pacific region.
We are enjoying looking at Rio and the important facts on www.kiwikidnews.co.nz.
Thank you to Daniel Lane for taking the photos!

Fractions
Room 4 have been finding halves, quarters, thirds and fifths of groups and objects.
We have been using this knowledge to help us solve our daily problems.
The big word we need to remember is share.
The question we have to ask ourselves is how many groups do I need to share this number into.
If we had to find 1/2 of 36, we would need to share 36 into 2 groups . This would make 18 and we also know this because 18 and 18 is 36.
If we had to find 1/4 of 36 we would share 36 into 4 groups which would be 9 because 9 and 9 and 9 and 9 makes 36 and 4 x 9 makes 36.

Bird Feeders
On Tuesday we got to hang our bird feeders in the forest.
We each had a bird feeder and we chose the branch we thought the birds would like to get their food from.
Then we were off to imagine...

Moon Buggy or Rover!
This week some of us choose to make a moon buggy or rover. We had to design, label and create our moon rover. Look at the fantastic machines we have made that will explore the moon's surface!

Shapes in Maths
Recently we looked at shapes we know like the circle, triangle, hexagon, square, rectangle and diamond. We looked at 3D shapes like a cylinder, cube, sphere, pyramid and cone.
Here we have created a pentagon. It was the answer to a problem we had.
